Random attemps a r/w to floppy

On my girlfriends computer,W98se, the floppy drive periodically
attemps to read/write, even through there is no disc in it on and no
body is on the computer,I never use this computer and she like to
download all sorts of "decorator" add ons for her email etc,so I'm
guessing one of these idiot programmes has added something somewhere
that causes this,any body got a sugestion on where and how to look to
fix this.

Hello Steve,

This can be due to anti-virus software is seeking to access the floppy
dr_ive to virus-check any floppy that m_ight be there. If this is so, learn
to live with it because the anti-virus software is protecting_ the hard
drive from any possiblity of infection from that source.
(Nowerdays most virus infection takes place over the Internet.)
